A Joy-Filled Summer Wedding at Howling Moon | Sara & Sebastian

There are some wedding days that seem to carry a little extra joy from the very beginning, and Sara and Sebastian’s July 25th wedding day was exactly that. From the calm morning getting ready at Howling Moon to a packed dance floor, heartfelt prayers, happy tears, and a sparkler-filled grand exit, their wedding day was full of moments that felt genuine, meaningful, and completely them. It was a hot summer day in Minnesota, but that didn’t slow anyone down. If anything, the warmth seemed to add to the laid-back, celebratory feeling of the day. There was an excitement in the air from the moment everyone started getting ready, and as the hours passed, that excitement only grew.

A Calm Morning at Howling Moon

The morning began at Howling Moon, where the girls spent the early part of the day upstairs in the getting-ready space. Hair and makeup were finishing up, dresses were waiting, and everyone was slowly settling into the reality that this was finally the day. One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is getting to document these quieter moments before everything really gets moving. There is something special about that calm before the ceremony—the conversations, the little details, the anticipation, and the feeling that everyone knows something big is about to happen. Upstairs, there was a peacefulness in the room. It was the perfect way to start the day before the hustle and bustle would eventually take over. Meanwhile, the boys were getting into their suits and getting ready for the day ahead. Before long, everyone was dressed, final touches were being made, and it was time to start bringing some of that wedding-day energy into the photos. Sara finished getting into her dress with her mom helping with the final touches. It was such a meaningful moment to watch her mom help prepare her for the day she had been waiting for. Once everything was in place, Sara was officially ready to become a bride. But before she walked down the aisle, she had one especially meaningful first look still ahead of her.

A First Look with Dad

Sara shared a special first look with her dad before we started bridesmaid photos, and it was one of those moments that doesn't need much explanation. There is something incredibly sweet about seeing a dad see his daughter as a bride for the first time. After spending the morning surrounded by all of the excitement, this moment slowed things down again. It was just the two of them taking in the significance of the day.

Then it was time to bring the whole group together.

Smiles, Laughter & Wedding Party Photos

The bridesmaids kicked off the photo portion of the day with plenty of smiles and laughter. These are always some of my favorite photos to take because there is so much room for personalities to come through. There were plenty of genuine smiles, plenty of laughter, and lots of fun throughout the morning. It was simply a group of friends enjoying being together on a really exciting day. Then it was the boys’ turn.

The groomsmen brought their own energy to the photos, keeping the fun going and making sure there was never a shortage of laughs. From the girls to the guys, the entire wedding party seemed ready to celebrate.

And while everyone was having fun, there was still one thing that hadn't happened yet.

Sara and Sebastian had intentionally saved their first look for the aisle.

Saving the First Look for the Ceremony

Instead of seeing each other before the ceremony, Sara and Sebastian chose to wait. That meant the anticipation continued to build as the ceremony got closer. The couple took some time to rest and freshen up before guests began arriving. After a busy morning, it was a chance to take a breath and soak everything in before the next chapter of the day began. Soon, guests started arriving and finding their seats. The room filled with family and friends who had come to celebrate Sara and Sebastian, and the atmosphere shifted from the relaxed energy of getting ready to the anticipation of a wedding ceremony. Then it was time.

A Meaningful Ceremony

The ceremony began with parents and grandparents being escorted down the aisle. Sebastian found his place at the front, and then the bridesmaids and groomsmen made their way down. And then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Sara appeared at the back of the aisle, escorted by her dad. Sebastian's face immediately lit up. After choosing to wait until the ceremony for their first look, there was something especially meaningful about seeing his reaction in that moment. There were happy tears, excitement, and the unmistakable look of someone seeing his bride for the first time. The ceremony began with a prayer for the couple, setting the tone for what would be a deeply meaningful part of their wedding day. The officiant also shared some sweet stories about getting to know Sebastian through the school ministry he was part of and the ways both Sara and Sebastian have worked to spread God's Word. It was a beautiful reflection of their faith and the role it plays in their relationship.

One of the sweetest moments came when the officiant shared what each of them had said when asked to describe the other. As their descriptions were read aloud, both Sara and Sebastian couldn't help but smile. Their expressions said so much, and you could look around at the guests and see plenty of people agreeing with every word. It was one of those moments that reminded everyone why they were gathered there in the first place—not just to celebrate a wedding, but to celebrate these two people and the kind of love and partnership they have built.

Then came the vows and the rings. Sara and Sebastian exchanged rings and promises before incorporating another meaningful symbol into their ceremony: a cord of three strands braided together. The symbolism of the cord was especially fitting for their wedding day and their faith—a reminder that their marriage is stronger when God remains at the center of it. Another incredibly special moment followed as family and friends came forward to pray over Sara and Sebastian as they began their marriage. Having the people closest to them surround them in prayer was such a meaningful way to begin this next chapter. And then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Their first kiss as husband and wife. Afterward, Sara and Sebastian turned toward their guests and made their way back down the aisle together. That walk back down the aisle is always one of my favorite moments of a wedding day. The ceremony is over, the nerves are gone, and suddenly the couple gets to celebrate. And the smiles? They were huge.

Making It Official

After the ceremony, we moved into family photos and all of the other little pieces that need to happen before the celebration can fully begin. Sara and Sebastian signed their marriage license, officially making it official. We gathered the whole family for photos before grabbing a few more photos with the entire bridal party. Of course, we also made sure to sneak away for some bride and groom portraits. It was definitely a hot one, but the summer weather gave us a beautiful backdrop for portraits. There was still time for Sara and Sebastian to enjoy some of cocktail hour, chat with their guests, and take a little bit of a breather before the reception festivities kicked into high gear. And then it was time to party.

A Reception Full of Personality

The grand entrances immediately set the tone for the evening. Instead of simply walking into the reception, each bridesmaid and groomsmen pair had a fun sports-themed entrance. Each pair brought their own energy, and the room quickly became filled with cheering and laughter. It was the perfect way to transition into the celebration portion of the day. Then came the grand entrance for the newlyweds. We welcomed in the Wellmans, and dinner was ready to be served. Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet before settling in for the speeches. And the speeches were full of the kind of stories that make weddings so memorable. Sara's best friend and maid of honor shared sweet stories about their friendship, including reading an old note Sara had sent her about the first time she told her about meeting Sebastian. There is something so fun about hearing an old story like that on a wedding day. It's a little glimpse into the beginning of a relationship and a reminder of how much can change between that first "I met someone" and the moment you're standing there watching your best friend marry that person.

Sebastian's brother was up next, sharing some brotherly stories along with a reminder of just how loved Sara and Sebastian are. Then Sara's dad finished out the speeches. Together, the speeches brought laughter, memories, and plenty of heartfelt moments to the evening.

First Dances & Opening the Dance Floor

After dinner and speeches, guests made their way downstairs for the first dances.

Sara and Sebastian shared their first dance as husband and wife, followed by the father-daughter dance and mother-son dance. Each one was a special moment, and after a full day of anticipation, it was another opportunity for everyone to slow down and take in what the day was really about. But it didn't take long before the dance floor opened. And once it did, it was a blast. Guests of all ages made their way onto the dance floor, and the energy stayed high. There were smiles everywhere, people dancing together, and plenty of moments that were impossible not to photograph. At one point, Sebastian was even being carried out onto the dance floor by all of the groomsmen. That pretty much summed up the energy of the night. And then came one of the dance floor highlights of the evening: "Thriller." Tristan, Sebastian's brother, absolutely lit up the dance floor, and even Leighton, Sebastian's dad, made an appearance. Those are the moments that make a wedding reception so much fun to photograph. They're not necessarily the moments anyone planned months in advance, but they are the moments everyone will remember.

Sunset Portraits

As the evening started winding down, we snuck away from the reception for a few final sunset photos.

After such a full day, it was nice to have another quiet moment with Sara and Sebastian. The heat of the day had settled into a beautiful summer evening, and the light gave us one final chance to capture the two of them together before the night came to an end. There is something special about sunset portraits at the end of a wedding day. The nerves of the morning are long gone. The ceremony has happened. The speeches have been given. The dancing is underway. The couple is married. And there is usually a little more time to simply enjoy being together.

A Sparkler-Filled Send-Off

To finish out the night, guests made their way outside with sparklers in hand.

They lined the gorgeous pathway, creating a glowing tunnel for Sara and Sebastian.

The couple stood ready at the start, surrounded by the people who had spent the entire day celebrating alongside them. Then they ran. Sara and Sebastian made their way through the sparkler-lit path as guests cheered them on, smiling and celebrating as they headed toward the end of their wedding day.And just like that, they were off.

A Day Full of Joy

Sara and Sebastian's July 25th wedding was full of the things that make a wedding day so special: anticipation, faith, family, friendship, laughter, happy tears, meaningful traditions, and a whole lot of dancing. From the calm morning at Howling Moon to Sara's first look with her dad, from Sebastian seeing his bride for the first time at the aisle to the prayers surrounding them as they began their marriage, there were so many meaningful moments woven throughout the day.

There are moments that bring you to tears, moments that make you laugh until your cheeks hurt, and moments that simply make you stop and think, This is exactly what this day is supposed to feel like. Sara and Sebastian's wedding had all of it.

It was a hot Minnesota summer day, but the warmth of the weather was nothing compared to the warmth surrounding these two. They were surrounded by family and friends who clearly love them, support them, and were excited to watch them begin this next chapter together.

From the first calm moments of the morning to the final sparkler send-off, their wedding day was a beautiful reflection of who they are and what matters most to them. And as Sara and Sebastian ran through that sparkler-lined path, cheered on by the people they love most, it felt like the perfect ending to an unforgettable day—and the beginning of something even better.
